How much Web Hosting Info Do You Need?

Monday, December 12th, 2005

I was just wondering how many of you are looking for web hosting? How many of you know “html”? The best way to start is by finding a good html tutorial. If you do a google search you can find several. There is really no need to pay for one unless you want to do so. There is even a book out now HTML for Dummies.

There is a lot to consider when searching for web hosting, and the top consideration is your own comfort zone and knowledge base. If you are a beginner start simple and experiment. Read, read, read. Several community colleges are offering courses now, too, on web building. This is a great time to be setting up your web pages.

Have fun!

Webhosting Blog Update

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

Blogs are great sources for information and are available for everyone to use. Whether or not you have your own Web Hosting service you can have a blog up and running. What is the advantage of having your own hosting service provider over using free services? The number one advantage is more freedom over the content.

It seems everyone has a blog today. Parents, do you know that one of the hottest topic in some schools in the USA is about what blogs the students are on? When I questioned one 15 year old girl about her blog, and asked her if she felt safe having her picture on the internet, she said yes, and looked at me like I was strange for even asking such a question. However she did go on to explain that her mother monitored her use of the internet, and required her to have restricted access to her blog, so only people she gave permission to could use it.

I went a bit off topic there, but this is one instance of how everyone is able to set up a blog. I read of grandmothers exchanging baby photos and recipes on blogs. Everyone is taking advantage of this not so new form of communication. It is great.

The more advanced blog user will eventually want to set up a blog on a hosted site though. They have more freedom to personalize the blog and to even run some advertising on it. This can give some additional income.
As more and more people are discovering the internet (yes there are still people out there without computers or internet usage but that is quickly changing), Webhosting is going to have to get more user friendly since the beginner demand will be going up.

We will explore more of this topic tomorrow.
